Security tip: Disable remote desktop

   
Why?

Because you want to increase the security of your computer or your client's or your company's or your parents' computer.

A Remote Desktop can be used by scammers pretending to offer technical support.

You don't need it on unless you know what you are doing, and it is for specific and legitimate reasons. Most of the time, it should be turned off. 

In a Windows computer go to the Settings (shortcut = press the Windows icon + the letter I) > System> scroll down > click Remote Desktop > click on the toggle next to the Remote Desktop option to turn it off.

You will be prompted to confirm your decision and click on the Disable button and exit the Settings.


Some versions of Windows do not support this feature and you will see a red sentence stating something similar or variation of this, "Your Home edition of Windows 11 doesn't support Remote Desktop."

The Queen Elizabeth II Academy for Leadership in International Affairs

   
The Leadership Masterclass Programme is a career development programme by the Academy. It runs for nine months and is a part-time option for working professionals running from early October 2023 to June 2024 in parallel with Academy fellowships. It is sponsored by the Asfari Foundation, Robert Bosch Stiftung and Mo Ibrahim Foundation.

Established in 2017, the Leadership Masterclass Programme offers participants the opportunity to engage and build their capacity for independent thinking on global policy issues and leadership by participating in a variety of regular sessions and activities, all held at Chatham House with world-class experts. They also have the environment to develop a network with other like-minded individuals, all with the support of a professional career coach.

Applications are open between 10am BST on Wednesday 9 August and 10am BST on Monday 4 September 2023. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and the closing date may be brought forward if needed, therefore applicants are encouraged to apply early.

AAI 2024 Applications are Now Open

   
The Ashinaga Africa Initiative (AAI) was established in 2014 to support orphaned African students who aspire to pursue higher education. AAI recognizes that the loss of parents can be a significant barrier to educational access for many talented and motivated young Africans.

Through scholarships, mentorship, and various support programs, AAI aims to bridge this gap and empower these students to achieve their dreams and positively impact their communities.

One of the cornerstones of the Ashinaga Africa Initiative is its leadership program, which offers financial support for higher education to orphaned students from across the African continent. The European Commission proposes 2 types of traineeship: an Administrative Traineeship or a Translation Traineeship with the Directorate-General for Translation (DGT).

The traineeship programme is open to all eligible candidates whatever their citizenship, regardless of their sex, race, colour, ethnic or social origin, religion or belief, membership of a national minority, disability, age or sexual orientation. Trainees work all over the European Commission, its services and agencies, mostly in Brussels, but also in Luxembourg and elsewhere across the European Union.

Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme for International Students

   
Applicants should demonstrate outstanding qualities of academic performance, research ability / potential, communication and interpersonal skills, and leadership abilities.

Fellowship Award

The Fellowship provides an annual stipend of HK$331,200 (approximately US$42,460) and a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$13,800 (approximately US$1,760) per year for each awardee for a period up to three years. 300 PhD Fellowships will be awarded in the 2024/25 academic year. For awardees who need more than three years to complete the PhD degree, additional support may be provided by the chosen universities. UNU-WIDER - Visiting PhD Fellowship

   
Visiting PhD Fellowship Programme gives registered doctoral students the opportunity to utilize the resources and facilities at UNU-WIDER for their PhD dissertation or thesis research on developing economies, and to work with our researchers in areas of mutual interest.

Visiting PhD fellows typically spend three consecutive months at UNU-WIDER before returning to their home institution. During the programme, fellows prepare one or more research papers and present a seminar on their research findings. They may also have the opportunity to publish their research in the WIDER Working Paper Series.
